Year 4 Weekly Update
In English, we’ve been focusing on independent reading and exploring the impact of rioting and looting on the streets, particularly looking at how these events made Jelly feel. The children have shown great empathy and understanding during our discussions.
In Maths, we wrapped up our topic on place value and began a new unit on adding and subtracting 1s, 10s, 100s and 1,000s. The class have made a confident start and are already applying their knowledge in problem-solving tasks.
In Design and Technology, we created templates and design ideas for our final product, which we’re excited to start building soon!
In Geography, we explored the four main threats to cocoa production: climate change, deforestation, pests and diseases, and economic factors. The children showed lots of curiosity and asked thoughtful questions.
In Science, we continued learning about different animal diets and how their teeth are suited to what they eat.
Our Times Tables focus this week has been all about consolidating our understanding of the 9 times tables. We’ve been working hard to recall them fluently, both in and out of order.
We ended the week on a positive note by wearing yellow on Friday to support World Mental Health Day. It was a lovely way to come together and spread awareness.
Homework this week includes:
- An RE carousel activity
- Times tables practice (using the link on the homework slip)
- Spellings
We hope everyone has a restful and enjoyable weekend!
