Another fantastic week in Year 6! The children have continued to work incredibly hard across the curriculum, and it has been lovely to see their enthusiasm and positive attitudes towards their learning.
In Maths, we have finished our unit on the four operations. The children have worked incredibly hard throughout this unit, tackling some challenging questions and developing their confidence in using different methods. We have now moved on to fractions, where we have started by exploring how to simplify fractions and identify equivalent fractions.
In English, we have been particularly impressed with the children's writing this week. Continuing our work on Kensuke's Kingdom, the children have written letters from Michael to his mum and dad, explaining his experiences and feelings while stranded on the isolated island. They have produced some fantastic pieces of writing, demonstrating the skills we have been developing throughout the half term. We have also reached Chapter 9 of the novel and are really looking forward to discovering how Michael's adventure comes to an end!
In D.T., we have completed our Structures and Mechanisms unit, with the children putting the finishing touches to their moving vehicles. After several weeks of designing, measuring, sawing and assembling, it was brilliant to see their finished products come together. We are pleased to report that most of them worked as intended! The children will now have the opportunity to evaluate their vehicles, reflecting on what went well and what they might improve if they were to make them again.
In PSHE, we have been exploring our 'Healthier Me' topic, focusing on the importance of making healthy food and lifestyle choices. The children have considered how the decisions they make can have a positive impact on their health and wellbeing, both now and in the future.
In Geography, we have continued our learning about coasts, looking in greater depth at different coastal habitats. The children have explored the characteristics of these environments and considered how different plants and animals are adapted to survive in them.
In Science, we have continued our classification topic, focusing on how plants can be grouped according to their characteristics. We have also explored the fascinating world of microorganisms, learning that while some can be harmful, many are actually beneficial and play important roles in our everyday lives.
It has been another very positive week in Year 6, and we have been really pleased with the children's continued hard work and effort. Next week marks the final week of our first half term, and we will be completing our assessments. This will be a great opportunity for the children to demonstrate everything they have learnt so far and show just how much progress they have made since September. We are looking forward to seeing them put all their hard work into practice and finish the half term on a high!
Have a lovely weekend!
