🌟 Our Learning This Week 🌟

We have had another busy and exciting week of learning across the curriculum!

In English, we continued our journey with Gunnar in Viking Boy. We were relieved to discover that Gunnar’s luck is finally starting to change. After his harsh life as a slave, he has now been freed, which led to lots of thoughtful discussion about his resilience and bravery. Gunnar is now on his way to the Land of Ice and Fire – Iceland, determined to free his father from Valhalla.

In Maths, we began looking at the relationship between fractions and decimals. We used our understanding of place value to help us convert between the two and explain our thinking clearly. The children showed growing confidence in spotting patterns and making connections.

In History, we investigated the question:
“How effective were longships during Viking invasions?”
Through our research, we discovered that Viking longships were clinker built, meaning the planks overlapped. This clever design made the ships flexible, allowing them to bounce across the rough waves of the North Sea, which helped Vikings travel long distances quickly and effectively.

In Science, we became marine engineers and planned an investigation into water resistance. We carefully discussed fair testing, variables and predictions, and we are looking forward to carrying out our investigation next week.

In Computing, we explored a range of search engines and learned how to evaluate the different information they provide. The children compared results, discussed reliability and began to understand how to choose the most useful sources.

We showed fantastic resilience in DT this week as we applied our joining skills to build a frame for our moving toy. We used constructional triangles to reinforce the joins of our square section wood, creating a strong and stable structure ready for adding our cams mechanism. Even when things didn’t work first time, the children kept going and improved their designs.

Well done to everyone for another hardworking and enthusiastic week of learning.
