This week in Year 5 has been full of challenge and creativity! In Maths, we tackled one of the trickiest parts of fractions—subtracting fractions from mixed numbers. It required great resilience, but every child worked hard and accomplished it! We all made links between what we have learnt over the past few weeks to help us.

In Geography, we began learning about the polar regions and started exploring the differences between the Arctic and Antarctic. We also located the Polar Regions and identified the 8 countries that were within the Arctic Circle.

In Design and Technology, we finished practising our hand sewing skills, mastering the tricky blanket stitch, and we’re now getting ready to create our winter hats.

In Computing we have learnt all about the different types of filming techniques we could use and had great fun trying them out.

Spanish took us out for breakfast, we learnt a variety of breakfast items in Spanish and learnt how to ask for food and drink.

In DT we carried on with testing basic handstitches, looking at back stitch and blanket stitch and tested them for strength and secureness when joining two pieces of fabric, and in English, we stepped into April’s shoes from The Last Bear to write diary entries from her point of view. April has had a crazy few months, and the children did a superb job of portraying this in their writing!

We’re also looking forward to meeting you all properly for our first Parent’s Evening of the year next week.
