This week has been bursting with creativity, curiosity and brilliant thinking across all of our subjects.
English – Stepping Into Character
In English, we climbed into the shoes of Fred and Con and explored their contrasting personalities through diary writing. Pupils worked hard to capture Fred’s sensible, thoughtful nature and Con’s bold, sassy attitude as they wrote about the same event from two very different perspectives. It was wonderful to see how confidently the children used voice, tone and emotion to bring each character to life.
Maths – Position and Direction
We wrapped up our unit on position and direction by deepening our understanding of translation, reflection and symmetry. The children enjoyed investigating how shapes move and change, and they showed great confidence in explaining the differences between these key concepts.
Geography – Exploring Rainforest Biomes
Our geography learning took us even deeper into the Amazon rainforest as we compared tropical rainforests with temperate rainforests. Pupils were fascinated by the similarities and differences between these biomes, particularly the contrast in climate, wildlife and vegetation.
Science – Amazing Adaptations
In science, we used our knowledge of amphibian life cycles to explore how animals adapt to their surroundings. We compared the common frog found here in the UK with the poison dart frog of the Amazon rainforest. The children were amazed to discover that UK frogs have webbed feet to help them swim, while poison dart frogs have sticky pads that make them excellent climbers. This comparison helped us understand how different habitats shape the features and behaviours of living things.
Music – Creating a Thunderstorm Soundscape
We ended the week with an exciting whole-class music composition. Using instruments such as wind chimes, glockenspiels, guitars, drums, brass and a range of wooden percussion, the children created a dramatic soundscape to represent a thunderstorm. From gentle pattering rain to booming thunder and lighning, the class worked together brilliantly to layer sounds and build atmosphere. The final performance was fantastic.
It’s been a week full of imagination, teamwork and thoughtful learning. We’re incredibly proud of the children for their enthusiasm and hard work across every subject.
Have a lovely half term holiday in the sun.
