🌿 Class Blog – Our Week in School

This week has been full of adventure, discovery and sunshine — both in and out of the classroom.

📚 English – Deep in the Amazon Rainforest

Our journey through the Amazon rainforest has continued as we followed Fred, Con, Lila and Max into the heart of the jungle. After stumbling upon an ancient lost city and experiencing a rather tense first encounter with the Explorer, the children in the story are now learning how to survive in the rainforest before beginning their trek to Manaus.

Although the Explorer insisted he wouldn’t help them, he has secretly been teaching them vital survival skills — from setting traps to catching tarantulas and fishing for food — but only on the condition that they keep both him and the lost city a secret. The class has loved exploring the tension, mystery and atmosphere of these chapters.

Maths – Negative Numbers & Percentages

In maths we’ve begun our new topic on negative numbers, exploring how they are used in real-life contexts such as temperature and elevation. We have also revisited methods for finding percentages of amounts, comparing different strategies and choosing the most efficient method for each problem.

🌼 Science – Pollination in Action

Our science lessons have focused on how plants reproduce. The children learned how both insects and the wind help pollinate flowers, allowing plants to create seeds and grow new plants. They were fascinated by the different ways plants attract pollinators and how important these processes are for ecosystems.

🏃‍♂️🏅 Sports Day – Sunshine and Smiles

On Tuesday, the rain kindly held off and the sun made a very welcome appearance for our Sports Day. It was wonderful to see so many parents joining us to cheer on the children. Every pupil showed brilliant teamwork, determination and encouragement — the atmosphere was fantastic and we were incredibly proud of them all.

🌍 Geography – Deforestation in the Amazon

In geography, we researched how deforestation is affecting the Amazon rainforest. The children explored the reasons behind the rapid loss of rainforest — including logging, farming and cattle ranching — and discussed the impact this has on wildlife, climate and local communities. This learning sets us up perfectly for our next unit, where we will look more closely at agriculture in the Amazon.

Have a lovely weekend and we will see you on Monday.
