We’ve had a fantastic week in Year 4, filled with exciting learning across all of our subjects.
In English, we have been exploring the first interactions between Elliot and Virgo, thinking carefully about their initial impressions of one another. The children are thoroughly enjoying the story and have shared some brilliant ideas during our discussions.
In Maths, we have been focusing on multiplication and division, particularly the 3, 6, 9 and 7 times tables. The children’s confidence is really growing, and it’s wonderful to see them becoming much more secure with their times table knowledge. They have been really challenged to use this knowledge in problem solving, identifying key mathematical vocabulary that shows they need to multiply. An excellent effort from everyone!
In Science, we have been investigating how materials can change state through heating and cooling. The children enjoyed exploring real-life examples and discussing how these changes happen. They have learned the key temperatures involved in changing the state of water: O' and 100'.
In History, we learned about a significant figure from the Greek Empire: Alexander the Great. We looked at how he conquered many countries and expanded the empire, and the children were fascinated by his achievements, particularly how he cleverly 'solved' the Gordian Knot to win Asia.
In Art, we have started our new topic by creating title pages inspired by our chosen artist, Peggy Bjerkan. The children showed great creativity and enthusiasm. We are very much looking forward to designing and creating masks that cleverly combine Greek theatre and Peggy Bjerkan's style.
A real highlight of the week was our wonderful trip to Cadbury World on Tuesday. The children watched chocolate being tempered and could see the effects of heating and cooling and how this helped it change state. They enjoyed the story of how chocolate is made and even got to taste some!
Homework this weekend includes the DT carousel, spellings, and times tables practice on TT Rockstars. Remember to aim for 20 minutes per week on garage.
Well done for a brilliant week, Year 4! Have a lovely weekend
