This week in Year 1, the children have enjoyed a wide range of learning across the curriculum.
In Geography, the children continued to build their knowledge of the world by learning about the Northern and Southern Hemispheres. They also looked at the North and South Poles and identified where these places are located on a globe.
In Science, the children learned about the purpose of a thermometer and how it is used to measure temperature. They then predicted what would happen to a glove filled with water when placed in the freezer and what would happen to another glove filled with water when left in a cupboard for the same amount of time. They will be writing up their findings next week.
In Design and Technology, the children created their fruit salad designs in preparation for making them during our next lesson.
In PE, the children practised their Gymnastics skills and explored different movements, including the bear crawl and frog jump.
In Maths, the children worked on their number bonds to 20. They used part–whole models, bar models and ten frames to help them understand different addition facts.
In English, the children continued reading Meerkat Mail. They gave thoughtful advice about what they think Sunny should do next, with many suggesting that he should return to the Kalahari Desert to be with his family.
Homework this week is Sounds Write activities, based on the /ie/ sound.
