What a fantastic week we've had in Year 1P!
This week in Maths, the children began learning about mass and volume. They investigated objects around the classroom to decide which were heavier or lighter. They have measured mass of objects and also compared the mass of different objects.
In English, we continued reading The Tale of Peter Rabbit by Beatrix Potter. The children made thoughtful predictions about what might happen if Peter sneaks back into Mr. McGregor’s garden. They also considered how Mr. McGregor might react when he sees Peter and discussed what the friendly sparrows could be saying to help him.
In Geography, the children carried out a class tally chart, as part of our Fieldwork topic, to find out the most popular capital city in the UK. They enjoyed gathering data from their classmates and seeing how we can use information to learn about the world around us.
In Science, we explored the parts of a flower, learning how each part helps the plant grow and survive. We also compared evergreen and deciduous tree leaves, discovering how they differ and identifying examples of each.
This week in Art, the children practised hatching and cross-hatching techniques. They experimented with making their sketches a lighter or darker tone.
In Music, the children learned to play the C note on the glockenspiels in time with the song In The Groove. They listened carefully, kept the beat, and made some lovely music together!
It was lovely to see all the children with their Odd Socks on!
Homework this week is on Numbots.
Any questions, please ask!
