🌟 Year 1 Weekly Blog 🌟
What a fantastic final week we have had in Year 1! It has been wonderful to reflect on all the progress the children have made throughout the year. They have worked incredibly hard, achieved so much and should be very proud of themselves. I am certainly very proud of them!
📚 English
In English, we have continued our work on The Secret of Black Rock by Joe Todd-Stanton.
The children wrote their own retell of the story, carefully including the key events in the correct order. They worked hard to use expanded noun phrases and time adverbials to make their writing more detailed and engaging. We were so impressed with their effort and the progress they have made in their writing this year.
The children's books will be coming home, and we hope you enjoy looking through them together and seeing all the fantastic learning and progress that has taken place throughout Year 1.
🔢 Maths
In Maths, we have been learning to tell the time to the hour and half past the hour.
The children have enjoyed practising reading clocks and using time vocabulary. If your child would like some extra practice at home, they may enjoy this optional activity:
BBC Bitesize: Telling the Time
🌍 Geography
In Geography, the children completed their end-of-unit assessment on The Seaside.
They used all of the knowledge they have gained this term to write about Blackpool, including its location in the UK and some of its famous landmarks. It was lovely to see how much they have remembered and learned throughout the topic.
⛪ Visit to St Wilfrid's Church
On Tuesday afternoon, we enjoyed a very exciting visit to St Wilfrid's Church.
Rector Andrew and his colleague, Sheila, taught us about the important features of the church and helped us learn more about Christian worship. The children also took part in a mock baptism, which allowed them to see exactly what happens during a baptism service.
The children were extremely well behaved throughout the visit and were a real credit to the school.
⭐ A Final Message
The children have had a lovely final week in Year 1 and have continued to show what fantastic learners they are. They have worked incredibly hard this term and have produced some amazing learning across the curriculum. We are so proud of all they have achieved and know that they are more than ready for the exciting challenges of Year 2.
Thank you for all of your support throughout this term. It has been a pleasure teaching your children and watching them grow in confidence, independence and maturity.
I am really looking forward to seeing the children again at the Year 2 door on Wednesday 2nd September and beginning another exciting stage of learning together.
Have a wonderful summer holiday! ☀️🌈
