What a wonderful week we've had in Year 1!

This week, we started our brand‑new book: The Tale of Peter Rabbit by Beatrix Potter. The children were instantly captivated by the mischievous Peter and his adventurous spirit.

In Maths, the children made a great start learning how to compare lengths and heights. Using practical equipment, they compared objects using vocabulary such as taller, shorter, longer and higher. Lots of hands-on fun and fantastic mathematical talk!

Our Geography work took us on a journey around the United Kingdom. The children explored the four capital cities—London, Edinburgh, Cardiff and Belfast—and learned about the countries they belong to. They enjoyed spotting landmarks and beginning to understand how the UK is made up.

In Art, we looked at how artists break images down into simple shapes. The children practised this technique by sketching a rabbit’s ear, beginning with circles and triangles before adding detail to form a realistic ear.

In Science, the children explored the different parts of a plant and their functions. They learned about roots, stems, leaves and flowers, and why each part is important for helping a plant grow and stay healthy.

The highlight of the week was our Mother’s Day assembly. It was so lovely to see the children sing so confidently and proudly.

Homework this week is Sounds Write activities based on the /s/ sound.
