🌟 Year 1 Weekly Blog 🌟
It has been another wonderful week in Year 1, with lots of fantastic learning taking place as we begin to prepare for the end of the school year!
📚 English
In English, we have continued our work on The Secret of Black Rock.
This week, the children wrote a setting description of where Erin lives. They worked hard to use nouns and adjectives to create expanded noun phrases and make their writing more interesting for the reader. We were really impressed with the imaginative ideas the children came up with and the effort they put into their writing.
🔢 Maths
In Maths, we have been learning about money and counting in coins.
The children have been practising recognising coins and counting different amounts. They have worked hard to apply their knowledge and solve money problems.
If your child would like to continue practising at home, they may enjoy these optional games:
We have also been learning about the days of the week and using the words before and after to talk about the order of events.
You could help your child practise at home by asking questions such as:
- Today is Monday, so tomorrow is ___
- Today is Monday, so yesterday was ___
- Tomorrow is Monday, so today is ___
- Tomorrow is Monday, so yesterday was ___
💻 Computing
In Computing, we continued developing our ScratchJr skills.
The children explored how to add numbers to programming blocks so that they could make their programmes more efficient using fewer blocks. We also learned how to make our sprites grow and shrink, which led to lots of laughter and excitement as the children experimented with different effects!
🌍 Geography
In Geography, we learned about map symbols and why they are used on maps.
We looked at symbols for places such as hotels, restaurants, airports and shops. The children then used a map of Blackpool to locate and place some of its famous landmarks, including:
- Blackpool Tower
- South Pier
- Sandcastle Waterpark
- Blackpool Pleasure Beach
- Sea Life Centre Aquarium
They showed great geographical knowledge and enjoyed exploring the map.
📄 Reports
Reports were sent home on Monday. I hope you enjoyed reading about your child's achievements, progress and all the wonderful things they have accomplished this year.
⭐ Transition Week
This Thursday and Friday have been our transition days, when the children have spent time in their new Year 2 classroom. The children are very excited to begin the next stage of their learning journey. I am especially excited that I will be teaching the children again in Year 2, and I am looking forward to seeing all the fantastic progress they continue to make next year!
Thank you for your continued support.
Have a lovely weekend! 🌈
