๐ŸŒŸ Year 1 Weekly Blog ๐ŸŒŸ
We have had a fantastic week in Year 1, filled with enthusiasm, creativity and lots of brilliant learning!

๐Ÿ“š English
This week, we introduced our new class text, Katie Morag Delivers the Mail by Mairi Hedderwick. The children have really enjoyed exploring the story and learning all about Katie Morag and the events that have taken place in the story so far.

We spent time thinking about her character, discussing what she is like and what makes her special. The children shared some brilliant ideas about her personality and were able to explain their thoughts clearly.

We are looking forward to continuing the story next week!

๐Ÿ”ข Maths
In Maths, we have been learning all about position and direction.

We have been practising using important vocabulary such as:

  • left
  • right
  • forwards
  • backwards
  • turn

The children had lots of fun giving and following directions in practical activities and showed great enthusiasm when applying their learning. We have also learnt about ordinal numbers and have practised using words such as 'first', 'second', 'last', 'third' etc.

๐ŸŒ Geography
In Geography, we started our new topic all about the seaside.

We looked at a map and located Blackpool, using simple directional language to describe where it is. The children enjoyed spotting it on the map and talking about what they might find at the seaside!

๐ŸŽจ Art
In Art, we began learning about our new artist, Jo Atherton.

We have started to explore her style and talked about her art. We will soon be creating our own artwork inspired by her. The children are very excited to get creative!

๐Ÿ’ฌ PSHE
In PSHE, we have been focusing on our ‘Healthy Me’ topic.

We talked about what it means to be healthy and discussed ways we can look after our bodies and minds. The children shared some thoughtful ideas and showed a great understanding of how to stay healthy.

๐Ÿงช Science
In Science, we have been learning about the seasons in the UK.

We found out which months belong to each season and talked about how the weather changes throughout the year. The children did a fantastic job remembering the different seasons and matching them to the correct months.

๐Ÿ“Œ Homework
Your child’s Sounds Write homework has been stuck into their books this week.

๐ŸŽค Father’s Day Assembly

Our Father’s Day assembly will take place on 19th June. Please continue to practise your child’s lines at home to help them feel confident and ready to perform. We can’t wait to share it with you!

Thank you for your continued support.

Have a lovely weekend! ๐ŸŒˆ
