๐ŸŒŸ Year 1 Weekly Blog ๐ŸŒŸ

It has been another busy and exciting week in Year 1, and the children have continued to work incredibly hard across all areas of their learning!

๐Ÿ“š English
This week, we started our new story, The Secret of Black Rock.

The children enjoyed exploring the beginning of the story and thinking carefully about what the characters might be feeling. We also made predictions about what might happen next and discussed why it would be dangerous for Erin to go out to sea. The children shared some thoughtful ideas and showed great imagination in their discussions.

๐Ÿ”ข Maths
In Maths, we have started our new unit on money.

The children have been learning to recognise different coins and notes and have enjoyed sorting and identifying them. We will continue to build on this learning over the coming weeks as we begin to solve problems involving money.

๐ŸŽจ Art
In Art, the children completed their final weaving pieces inspired by the work of Jo Atherton.

They worked carefully to weave different materials together and were very proud of their finished artwork. The final pieces looked fantastic and showcased all the skills they have developed throughout the unit.

๐Ÿงช Science
In Science, we compared the weather during the different seasons.

The children thought about how the weather changes throughout the year and discussed the differences between spring, summer, autumn and winter. They showed a great understanding of seasonal weather patterns.

๐ŸŒ Geography
In Geography, we continued our learning about Blackpool.

We looked at some of Blackpool's famous landmarks and watched a bird's-eye drone video to see where they are located. The children loved spotting the landmarks from above and talking about what makes them special.

๐Ÿ’ป Computing
In Computing, the children explored ScratchJr using the iPads. We have learnt about algorithms, programming blocks and what a sprite is!

The children enjoyed creating simple programmes and experimenting with different commands to make characters move. It was wonderful to see their confidence growing as they developed their coding skills. You can download the ScratchJr app for free here https://www.scratchjr.org/ if you would like to explore this app at home with your child.

โญ Transition Days
We are very excited about our transition days next week, when the children will have the opportunity to spend some time in Year 2. This is always an exciting part of the year and a chance for the children to meet their new teachers and experience their new classroom. The transition days will take place on Thursday and Friday of next week.

๐Ÿ“š Reminder
Please remember to send your child to school with a carrier bag if you have not already done so. We will soon be sending books home and would like the children to have something to carry them in.

The children can also continue their maths learning at home using Numbots over summer if they wish to. Their login details are stuck into the front of their reading records, but if you have not got a log in sheet please let me know. ๐Ÿ˜Š

Thank you for your continued support.

Have a lovely weekend! ๐ŸŒˆ
