This week we began our exciting new topic: Castles and Dragons. The children have been full of curiosity, imagination, and brilliant questions already!
In Drawing Club , we explored George and the Dragon by Christopher Wormell. The children loved discovering the characters and imagining what might happen next. They created fantastic drawings inspired by the story and practised using descriptive language to bring their ideas to life.
Our topic led us into history, where we have been looking closely at castles and their different features. The children learned new vocabulary such as portcullis, drawbridge, moat, and battlements. They enjoyed labelling parts of a castle and discussing what each feature was used for. There were lots of enthusiastic conversations about knights, kings, queens, and how castles kept people safe long ago.
In maths, we have introduced the concept of time. We’ve been learning about the order of events and the children practised putting simple activities in order. We have also used egg timers to help understand the concept of time and we have been looking at routines in their day as well as days of the week.
Our RE focus has been understanding, what a message is. We linked this idea to special stories from the bible and thought about how stories can teach us something important. The children discussed how we can recieve and send messages and wrote their own messages in the floor book.
The children have been working hard with Mrs Grimshaw to make their own castle and I must say they did a fantastic job! I have added it to the tuff tray for the children to play with next week.
Have a lovely weekend
Miss Tolley
