Welcome back! It has been a wonderful first week of the new half term in Year 6. The children have returned with a fantastic attitude towards their learning and have settled straight back into routines with enthusiasm and focus.
In Maths, we continued our work on fractions, revisiting simplifying and equivalent fractions before moving on to comparing them. By the end of the week, the children began adding and subtracting fractions – showing great perseverance and growing confidence in applying their knowledge to increasingly complex problems.
In English, we began our new class novel, Pig Heart Boy by Malorie Blackman. The opening chapters sparked thoughtful discussion, as the story begins in a powerful and emotional way. The children have already shown great empathy and maturity in exploring the themes and characters introduced so far.
In Science, we launched our new topic on the circulatory system. The children learned about the main parts of the system, including the heart, blood and blood vessels, and began to understand how they work together to keep our bodies functioning.
In Art, we were introduced to the artist Ileana Hunter, a photorealistic pencil artist. The children explored her drawing style and techniques, discussing how she uses tone and shading to achieve incredible detail. They are excited to start developing their own pieces inspired by her work over the coming weeks.
We would also like to say a huge thank you to all of our helpers and families who supported our Open Day and Evening this week. The feedback we received was wonderful, and the children should be incredibly proud of themselves — they represented Wood Fold exceptionally well, showing just how hardworking, polite and enthusiastic our pupils are.
It has been a brilliant start to the half term — the children have shown great curiosity, effort and teamwork across all subjects. Well done, Year 6!
