6/6/25

Date: 9th Jun 2025 @ 7:45am

Hello everyone,

It’s been another packed and exciting week in Year 6 as we dive deeper into our summer term learning.

Science
In Science, we’ve continued exploring electrical circuits, specifically the differences between series and parallel circuits. The children have investigated how electricity flows in each type, noticing how components like bulbs behave differently depending on the circuit layout. It’s been great to see them using their scientific reasoning skills to make predictions as to what would happen and why.

History
Our study of the Industrial Revolution has continued as we've delved even deeper into the development of transport. This week, we've looked at how the road system expanded. The children explored the rise of turnpike roads and how improved travel helped move goods and people more efficiently across the country, boosting industry and trade.

English
We’re nearing the end of Darwin’s Dragons, and Syms is facing a tough ethical decision: should the dragons remain in England where they could be studied and protected, or should he return them to the mysterious island they came from? This has sparked some thoughtful class debates and reflective writing on doing what’s right.

Maths
In Maths, we’ve been putting our problem-solving skills into real-world use by planning our own holidays. The children have researched average temperatures, rainfall, travel times and even the effect of time zones, using data to justify their choices and practise their calculation skills.

Computing
To round off the week, we tapped into our creativity by designing and coding our own video games using Scratch. It was brilliant to see the children’s ideas come to life, combining programming with some good old-fashioned resilience!

We hope you all a lovely weekend!
