We’ve had such a brilliant week in Year 5, full of fun learning, creativity, and lots of new experiences. We started reading our new class book, The Golden Horseman of Baghdad, and the children have loved getting to know the main character, Jabir. They’ve been asking great questions and making some very interesting predictions about what might happen next!
In science, we kicked off our new topic on space. Everyone showed amazing curiosity as we learned all about the planets and our solar system—from Mercury’s super‑hot temperatures to the huge storms on Jupiter. The excitement in the room has been fantastic.
We also had a wonderful time at Forest School. The children enjoyed exploring, working together, and discovering new things outdoors. It was wonderful to see them in the fresh air and enjoying the freedom that the forest brings! Next week, we’re looking forward to starting den making—always a big hit in Year 5—and we can’t wait to see the ideas they come up with.
World Book Day made our week even more special. Lots of children visited the Reading Café on Tuesday and loved relaxing with a book and a warm drink. One of the highlights was meeting author and illustrator Emma Reynolds. The children were really interested in hearing how she creates her books, from her first ideas to the finished illustrations, and they asked brilliant questions. We then took our hand to being an illustrator - making sure to include a detailed background as well as the main character. On World Book Day itself, we had a great time dressing up and sharing our favourite book characters. It was especially lovely to see so many outfits inspired by books we’ve studied this year. We celebrated by ‘diving into a story’ on the iPads and using Book Creator to write our own versions—everyone had so much fun letting their imaginations run wild!
