📖 English
We have now finished reading The Explorer by Katherine Rundell. The children have really enjoyed following the characters’ journey, and to finish off, we’ve planned a newspaper report based on the moment the children are found alive after escaping the dangers of the rainforest. They’ve come up with some great headlines and dramatic leads—we can’t wait to see the final pieces!
💷 PSHE – Economic Wellbeing
In our Economic Wellbeing lesson, we looked at budgeting—discussing the difference between needs and wants, and how to plan spending responsibly. The children showed a mature understanding of how budgeting works in everyday life.
🧬 Science
In Science, we explored gestation periods and compared the length of pregnancy in different animals. We discussed how an animal’s size often links to how long the gestation period lasts, and the children asked some brilliant scientific questions along the way.
🌍 Geography
This week in Geography, we examined slash and burn farming in the Amazon. We discussed the advantages and disadvantages of this method for clearing land and thought carefully about how it impacts both people and the environment.
🎭 Peter Pan Performances
A big highlight of the week has been our Peter Pan production. The children have truly shone in their performances—whether acting, singing, dancing or helping behind the scenes. Their confidence and teamwork have been amazing, and they should all feel incredibly proud of themselves.
A brilliant week all round—well done, Year 5!
