We've had another brilliant and busy week in Year 2!

In English, we continued reading our class text Baker’s Boy. The children answered questions using clues from the text and were able to explain why events were going so badly for the people involved. We also explored what the characters might have been saying and thinking as they realised the fire was spreading further. Later in the week, the class came up with questions that they would like to ask Mrs Pepys when Samuel Pepys and Will returned home after helping to fight the fire.

In Maths, we began our new topic on multiplication and division. We started by recognising equal groups and then practised making and adding equal groups ourselves. The children have now begun using the multiplication symbol.

Our Great Fire of London topic continued this week as we investigated why the fire spread so quickly. We discussed the dry, windy weather at the time and looked at how the wooden buildings and narrow streets played a part. The children made great connections to what they’ve been reading in English too!

In Science, we explored micro-habitats. We learnt that a micro-habitat is a small habitat within a larger one, such as under a log or in a patch of long grass. The children enjoyed discussing what living things we might find in different micro-habitats and how they are suited to their environments.

In DT, we learned about techniques for preparing fruits and vegetables. The children had the chance to explore different methods such as grating, cutting, peeling, and juicing. They are building excellent skills ready for making their own cakes very soon.

In Computing, we worked on predicting the outcomes of simple sequences. The children made their predictions and then checked them by using our floor robots. They loved seeing whether their algorithm worked as expected!

The children have worked so hard and shown great enthusiasm in every subject.

Have a lovely weekend!
