We’ve had yet another enjoyable and productive week in Year 6, filled with brilliant learning and thoughtful discussions. The children continue to impress us with their maturity, curiosity, and enthusiasm across all subjects.

Maths
Our fractions unit has moved into more complex skills this week. The children have been multiplying and dividing fractions, finding fractions of amounts, and applying their fractions knowledge to a range of real-life and problem-solving contexts. It has been fantastic to see their confidence grow as they tackle challenging concepts with resilience.

English
In English, the children wrote powerful diary entries in the shoes of Cameron from Pig Heart Boy, based on the first five chapters. They explored his thoughts, emotions, and the difficult decision he faces about having a heart transplant. The empathy and depth shown in their writing has been truly impressive.

Science
We carried out an exciting practical investigation to explore how exercise affects heart rate. The children collected their own data and began analysing the results, noticing patterns and thinking carefully about how they can draw accurate conclusions. A brilliant piece of scientific enquiry!

History
Our Anglo-Saxon topic continued as we explored crimes and punishments from the period. The children were fascinated (and sometimes shocked!) to learn about trial by ordeal, compensation payments known as wergild, and punishments such as hand-cutting for theft. A fascinating glimpse into how justice has changed over time.

PSHE
As part of our community project, we learned about The Brick charity in Wigan and the amazing work they do to support vulnerable people. We discussed how their food bank, support services, and outreach make a positive difference locally. Thank you to everyone who has already started bringing in donations to help families this Christmas—it’s incredibly appreciated.

Art
In Art, we studied how Ileana Hunter uses grid lines to achieve accuracy in her photorealistic drawings. The children practised this technique themselves and produced some brilliant work with real focus and care.

Another hugely enjoyable week in Year 6. Have a great weekend—see you next week!
