In drawing club this week we read ‘The Jolly Postman’ by Janet and Allan Ahlberg. The children designed a new bike for the Jolly Postman so he could deliver his letters quicker, and a Christmas jumper for him to wear when delivering letters in December. The book inspired us to find out more information about postal workers and how we send letters and parcels. The children have had lots of run role-playing in the new post office and writing their own letters and invitations -lots of stamps have been used! We also revisited the idea that we live in Standish and talked about different jobs which exist locally such as chemists, florists etc.
In maths, we have been learning about shapes with 4 sides. The children have described both squares and rectangles and have used lolly pops sticks to make these shapes. We also explored folding a square piece of paper to make smaller rectangles and squares – the children did a great job!
In PE, we have continued with our topic of ‘Transport’, the children have been practising travelling under and over apparatus as well as overarm throwing.
We had lovely time in the forest learning all about owls with Mrs Grimshaw where the children made fir cone owls.
Have a lovely weekend
Mrs Harris
