We have had a fantastic week of learning and activities in Year 1R!

We finished our text, 'Lost and Found', much to the children's delight when the boy and the penguin were reunited. To prepare for retelling the story next week, the children sequenced the key parts of the narrative onto a story map, incorporating time adverbials into their work.

The focus in Maths this week was on subtraction, with children practicing 'crossing out' and 'taking away' methods.

The class welcomed a special visitor, Jim, who delivered a fascinating talk about the history of Standish and how the area has evolved. He shared many interesting facts and images, including the first school photo from Wood Fold Primary School, dating all the way back to 1971!

For our DT project, the children tested different materials to determine which would be best for creating a hand muff. They conducted a test over a frozen glove and decided that felt was the most suitable material.

Children continued to develop their skills using the Paintz program. This week, we explored the work of the artist Wassily Kandinsky and recreated some of his famous art pieces.

We had our final Forest School session yesterday. It has been wonderful seeing how much the children immersed themselves and enjoyed every session.

This week's homework has been set on MyMaths.

Have a lovely weekend!
