This week we have been learning about the artist Vincent van Gogh and his famous sunflowers paintings. The children looked closely at real sunflowers and after practising cutting and tearing paper shapes we began creating our own sunflowers using collage techniques and a variety of different materials. The children are getting really good at evaluating their work as they go along now and lots of great discussion took place about how to make individual collages look more realistic.
In Drawing Club, we read The Enormous Turnip and the children came up with their own imaginative ideas for how to pull the giant turnip out of the ground as well as alternative uses, for the turnip as the farmer and his family got fed up of eating turnip every day!
In maths, we have explored 3D shapes - finding the 2D shapes within them, testing which ones roll, and spotting them around the environment. The children have picked up shape names brilliantly and recalled their knowledge of 2D shapes.
We have continued to talk about being a good friend and read stories about sharing. We decided to make a class Sharing Jar to celebrate kind and helpful moments.
It was lovely to see so many of you at parents evening this week and to share the children's books with you, I hope you are just as proud of their progress as I am.
Have a lovely weekend.
Mrs Harris
