What a lovely week we’ve had in Year 1! The children have worked so hard across all our subjects, and we’re really proud of the enthusiasm they’ve shown in their learning.

This week we continued our work on Peter Rabbit. The children created a story map, helping them to remember the key events in the right order. We also practised describing Peter using lots of interesting adjectives. The class came up with some brilliant ideas such as mischievous, brave, and curious. All this has helped us get ready for our story retell next week, and the children are very excited!

We also learned a new conjunction this week: “and”. We practised using it to join ideas in our sentences, for example: Peter is cheeky and fast.

In Sounds Write, we continued working with the /ar/ sound.
The children read and wrote words such as car, park, and start. They are becoming much more confident in spotting the spelling in sentences and using it in their writing

In Maths we explored capacity. The children compared containers to see which held more or less. They used vocabulary such as full, empty, nearly full, and half full. We experimented with water and different sized containers, which made the learning practical and fun!

We put our gardening gloves on this week as we planted seeds for our new science topic on plants. The children learned what seeds need to grow and have predicted what they think will happen over the next few weeks. We're looking forward to observing any changes!

In Geography we learned the differences between villages, towns, and cities.
The children enjoyed sorting pictures and talking about the features of each place, such as buildings, size, and what we might find there.

We practised our drawing skills this week by sketching Peter Rabbit.
The children looked carefully at shapes and lines to build their pictures step by step. They concentrated beautifully, and their drawings were fantastic!

Although we covered a lot, the week had a wonderfully calm feel. The children worked at a steady pace, helped each other, and enjoyed the creative activities. A really lovely atmosphere all round.
