The children have settled back into school brilliantly and have had a fantastic first week back.
In Maths this week, we continued with our multiplication and division topic. The children have been multiplying and dividing by 5 and 10 and have shown great perseverance when using the inverse to find missing numbers in calculations.
In English, we began reading our new non-fiction text, The Great Fire of London. We explored the key features of non-fiction books, including how to use a contents page to locate information. The children used their senses to imagine what it might have felt like to stand on a street in London in 1666. They have also been using information from the text to answer a variety of questions, helping them build strong retrieval skills.
During our reading sessions, we’ve really enjoyed sharing our new books and reading books will be sent home next week.
In Science, the children created fantastic habitat fact files. They used the Ipads to research the habitats, looking closely at where different habitats can be found and identified the living things that live in each environment.
In History, we have continued our Great Fire of London topic by looking at the different sources of evidence that help us understand what happened in 1666. The children explored diaries, newspaper reports, and paintings, discussing how each one gives us important clues about life at the time and the events of the fire.
In Music, the children worked extremely hard learning to play “Hot Cross Buns” on the recorder. They showed great concentration and enthusiasm.
In Computing, the children enjoyed programming their Bee-Bots to travel between London landmarks on the mats they created. They had to think carefully about direction, sequencing, and avoiding obstacles. They were also able to refine their instructions if there were any errors.
We’ve had a brilliant first week back and are looking forward to the rest of the half term. Thank you, as always, for your continued support.
Have a lovely weekend!
