New Age Kurling
In light of Team GB’s Silver medal at this year’s Winter Olympic Games, children from years 5 and 6 took part in a New Age Kurling after school club. Although the children didn’t play on ice or need a broom to play, they worked on their pace and precision of the kettles, as well as their overall teamwork and strategy. The children are looking forward to representing Wood Fold in the Wigan kurling event later on in the month to hopefully retain the title from winning the competition last year.
Made For This Game
In previous years we have celebrated girls’ football at this time of year through 'Let Girls Play' day and ‘The Biggest Ever Football session’. This year The FA has retired The Biggest Ever Football Session and dropped the Let Girls Play hashtag. Let Girls Play has been replaced by 'Made for this Game', no longer should girls be asking to be 'Let to Play' instead Girls are empowered to show they are 'Made for This Game'!
On Friday 6th March, Wood Fold will be getting involved in the ‘Made for This Game’ initiative by inviting girls and boys from school to play football at breaktimes, lunchtimes, football festivals outside of school at Laithwaite Park and in PE lessons across the day. We would love it if any of the girls from Wood Fold could send in any pictures that you have of playing football outside of school. This could be at a football match, a training session, a kick about at the park or even football keepy-ups in your back garden! Please send in any pictures you have to l.carr@woodfold.wigan.sch.uk to help celebrate this day even more and to promote the love of football!
