This week has been extremely hot, but the children have continued to work really hard – we are very proud of them!

In Design and Technology, the children have been learning how to measure, mark out and cut wood carefully and safely. They practised these important skills in preparation for making their moon buggies and showed great focus and responsibility.

In Maths, we have finished our statistics unit. The children have been interpreting pictograms where the key represents 2, 5 and 10, and solving lots of problems linked to this topic. We have now started our final Maths topic, Position and Direction, where the children are learning the language of position. We began by describing where objects are using left and right.

In English, the children started the week by writing a recount. They then worked hard to edit and redraft parts of their writing to improve it. Later in the week, they explored new characters in our story and discussed their first impressions, particularly those taking part in the race to reach the Snow father.

In History, we learned about Mae Jemison and discussed why she is a significant individual. The children were fascinated to learn about her achievements.

In Science, we have been exploring materials and thinking about what objects are made from. We discovered that objects can be made from different materials depending on their purpose.

In Spelling, we have been learning about the /l/ sound at the end of words and that it can be spelt –le or –el.

Another fantastic week in Year 2 – well done everyone!

Have a lovely weekend!
