We have had a very warm but wonderful week in Reception, and the children have coped brilliantly with the hot weather, making sure to stay hydrated and take plenty of breaks in the shade.

In Drawing Club this week, we enjoyed the story Lila and the Secret of Rain. The children were really engaged with the setting and themes of the story, and we had some fantastic discussions about how Lila tried to solve the problem of the drought. The children created some imaginative drawings inspired by the story, including their own ideas for how to bring rain to Lila’s village. It was lovely to see them using their creativity and building stories around their illustrations.

In maths, we have been exploring positional language. The children have been learning to describe where objects are using words such as on, under, next to, behind and in front. We have used practical activities and games both indoors and outside, helping the children to understand and use this language confidently in real-life contexts.

Our topic learning has continued to focus on Africa. We have revisited what we have already learned and built on this by talking more about the environment, weather and landscapes. The children made great links to our Drawing Club story and were able to talk about how the weather can affect people’s lives.

Despite the heat, the children have remained enthusiastic and engaged in their learning, and we are very proud of how well they have worked throughout the week. Thank you for your ongoing support at home—we hope you all have a lovely, restful weekend.
