A Week in Year 4: Our First Week Back After Easter!

What a fantastic start we’ve had to the summer term! Year 4 returned from the Easter break full of energy and enthusiasm, ready to dive into new learning adventures across all subjects.

English this week, we began exploring our new book, Roman Invasion. We got to know Bran, an intriguing character from the story, and had fun answering questions about him and his experiences. We also took on the task of describing the Roman Fort—a brilliant exercise for expanding our vocabulary.

In Maths, we began our new topic: decimals! Our focus was understanding tenths in different ways—whether as decimals, on a place value chart, or on a number line. It’s been fascinating to connect these ideas together. Alongside this, we’ve continued to build confidence with our times tables, practicing a mix of them.

In Art we completed our final piece on Still Life, applying everything we’ve learned about pencil grips, shading techniques, and working with precision. We were careful with height and used the correct pencils for amazing results. The outcomes were amazing—well done, everyone!

This week in History, we compared the Romans and the Celts, uncovering plenty of fascinating facts about their lifestyles, entertainment, and battle techniques. It was fascinating to see where their similarities and differences lie—and our discussions were full of insight.

Our Science lessons saw us continuing to learn about the human impact on habitats. This topic sparks great conversations and really helps us think about our responsibility to care for the environment around us.

Just a reminder: this week’s homework includes a Science learning postcard and times tables practice. Times tables quizzes are coming up soon, so please keep up the regular practice to ace them!

It’s been an exciting, productive week and we’re looking forward to building on everything we’ve learned. Have a lovely weekend! 😊
