Year 6 have had another very successful week, full of hard work, teamwork and exciting learning opportunities.
In Maths, we continued our work on the four operations. The children consolidated their knowledge of prime numbers up to 100 and extended their learning by exploring square and cubed numbers. They showed great perseverance when applying these concepts to different problems.
In English, we spent time writing, revising and improving our setting descriptions of the island in Kensuke’s Kingdom. The children used powerful descriptive language and a range of grammatical features to bring their writing to life. We also read on to Chapter 5, where Michael finally discovered Kensuke – who had secretly been leaving him food and water. We explored Kensuke as a character, thinking about his actions, personality and motives. This will lead us into writing our own detailed character descriptions next week.
In Science, our focus was on grouping organisms. The children learned how scientists classify living things into different groups based on their characteristics. They enjoyed sorting a variety of animals and plants and developed a deeper understanding of how classification helps us to make sense of the natural world.
In Design and Technology, we completed a focused practical task making a mini chassis in preparation for our moving vehicles project. The children practised key skills such as measuring, cutting accurately and strengthening joins using constructional triangles.
Our Forest School session was another highlight, giving the children the opportunity to work together, problem-solve and enjoy the outdoors in a practical, hands-on way.
In Geography, we explored the features of bays and headlands, considering how they are formed through coastal erosion and deposition.
It has been another busy, enjoyable and productive week in Year 6. Well done, everyone – enjoy your weekend!
