Welcome back Year 2! We hope you have had a lovely Easter break! This week we have jumped straight into some new learning and started some new topics.
In English, we have started reading 'The Boy Who Grew Dragons'. So far, Tomas has found a dragon fruit in his Grandads garden, which is behaving in an unusual way. It is growing, glowing and oozing. The children are very intrigued to read on and find out what happens next.
In Maths, we have been looking at volume and capacity. We compared volumes and also started looking at measuring in ml.
In Science, we have started a brand new topic on Plants. We discussed the differences and similarities between deciduous and evergreen trees and wild and garden flowers. The children sorted pictures into groups.
In Geography, we started a new topic on Africa. We learned that Africa is the second largest continent in terms of size and population and is made up of 54 countries. We located South Africa and Capetown on a map.
This week, we had our first drama lesson. The children were given the introduction to 'Little Red Riding Hood' and took on different roles. We talked about changing our voices and using facial expressions to bring the characters to life.
Have a lovely weekend,
Miss Hunter
