What a fantastic end to our first half term in Year 6! The children have worked incredibly hard over the past few weeks and should be very proud of everything they’ve achieved.

In Maths, we wrapped up our unit on the four operations and moved on to fractions. This week, we explored equivalent fractions and practised simplifying them. The children showed great understanding and enthusiasm as they began this new topic.

In English, we finished reading Kensuke’s Kingdom. The children were completely captivated by the story and had strong reactions to the ending – some felt emotional about Michael’s farewell to Kensuke, while others admired the powerful message about friendship, respect and survival. It has been wonderful to see how much the children have enjoyed both the story and the characters throughout this unit.

In Design and Technology, we proudly completed our moving vehicles. The children demonstrated excellent teamwork, creativity and perseverance, using the skills they had practised over previous weeks to build strong, functioning designs. They successfully added circuits to make their vehicles move in two directions – a brilliant achievement that they were rightly proud of!

In Geography, we concluded our learning on coastal processes and landforms by comparing the coast of Saudi Arabia to the coast of the UK. The children identified similarities and differences in climate, landscape and human activity, showing great curiosity and understanding.

In Science, we completed our unit on Living Things and Their Habitats by classifying plants and animals using different types of classification keys. The children then answered an enquiry question to demonstrate what they had learned throughout the topic – an excellent way to finish a fascinating unit.

Although the weather meant we couldn’t visit Forest School this week, we made the most of it with a fun-packed session in the hall. The children took part in team challenges and activities that built on the collaborative skills they have developed so well this half term.

As we reach the end of a busy and successful half term, we want to say a huge thank you to all of the children for their hard work, enthusiasm and positive attitude. You’ve made an excellent start to Year 6! Thank you also to our parents and carers for your continued support – it really makes such a difference. We hope everyone enjoys a well-deserved half term break, filled with fun and rest.

We look forward to seeing you all back in school on Monday 3rd November.
