We have had a busy and exciting week in Reception, full of creativity, curiosity and sunshine! The children have been wonderful learners and have enjoyed exploring a range of activities across the curriculum. Here’s a little snapshot of what we’ve been up to.

In Drawing Club, the children loved exploring the story The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle. We talked about the characters, events and themes in the story, and the children had lots of thoughtful ideas to share. They used their imaginations to create their own drawings inspired by the book, carefully adding details and explaining their ideas. It was lovely to see their confidence grow as they talked about their pictures and stories.

This week in maths, we have been focusing on numbers beyond 10. The children explored numbers from 11 all the way to 20! We practised recognising and counting these numbers through engaging activities, games and discussions. The children showed great enthusiasm and are becoming more confident in understanding that numbers continue beyond 10.

In science, we continued our learning by looking at the life cycle of a butterfly. The children learned about the different stages, from egg to caterpillar, chrysalis and finally a butterfly. They then drew their own life cycles in their books, showing a good understanding of the sequence and changes that occur. It was fantastic to see how carefully they worked and how proud they were of their learning.

We also introduced the children to the artist Lucy Arnold. They enjoyed looking at her artwork and talking about colours, patterns and textures. This sparked lots of creative ideas and discussions, helping the children to see how artists express themselves in different ways.

To top off a great week, we made the most of the lovely sunshine. The children enjoyed time outdoors, playing, exploring and working together.

Thank you, as always, for your continued support. We are very proud of how hard the children are working and can’t wait for another exciting week ahead!
