23/5/25

Date: 23rd May 2025 @ 3:59pm

As we come to the end of the Summer 1 half term, Year 5 have continued to impress with their focus and effort across the curriculum.

📖 English
We have continued reading The Explorer by Katherine Rundell and spent time analysing the thoughts and feelings of the characters. The children have shown a strong understanding of character development and how emotions are conveyed through actions and dialogue.

Maths
In Maths, we have been learning about position and direction, focusing on co-ordinates and translation. The class have worked hard to plot points accurately and describe movements clearly across a grid.

🧬 Science
Our Science lessons have taken us into the world of amphibians, where we compared the common frog to the Brazilian poison dart frog. The children enjoyed learning about the differences in appearance, life cycle, and habitat.

🌍 Geography
This week in Geography, we explored the impact of deforestation and discussed the lives of the indigenous people who live in the rainforest. The class showed great maturity in considering the effects of human activity on both the environment and communities.

💻 Computing
To end our work on Digital Citizenship, we focused on how to be upstanding against cyberbullying. We discussed the importance of kindness and responsibility online and how we can all play a part in creating a safer digital space.

Well done, Year 5, for a fantastic half term. Enjoy a well-earned week off—you’ve earned it!
