This week, we’ve been exploring coordinates and learning how to translate and reflect shapes across quadrants. The children have shown great understanding of position and direction, and it’s been fantastic to see their confidence grow with these tricky concepts.
In Darwin’s Dragons, the story has taken another dramatic turn. Mr Darwin has finally rescued Syms and Farthing the lizard, but he remains unsure about Syms’ incredible encounter with the dragon inside the volcano. Our class discussions around belief, trust and adventure have been full of thoughtful insights, and the children have shown an excellent understanding of how the relationship between our two main characters has developed over time.
We’ve had great fun playing whole-class rounders, with some brilliant teamwork and sportsmanship on show. In art, we’ve continued to develop our drawing techniques in the style of L.S. Lowry, focusing on proportion and sketching our own matchstick men in different poses.
In our local history unit, we’ve been learning about the importance of the canal network during the Industrial Revolution. The children explored how canals like the Leeds and Liverpool Canal transformed trade and industry in our region, bringing history to life through maps, artefacts and discussion.
