23/05/25

Date: 23rd May 2025 @ 3:30pm

This term has been filled with sunshine, excitement and lots of new learning.
I can't believe that we are entering into our last weeks of Year 2. There has been so much growth and progress made so far, I'm looking forward to what is next!

In English, we have been reading more and more of 'The Boy who Grew Dragons'. Tomas is determined to discover if there are more dragons out there, however Grandad's neighbour Grim, will do anything to stop Tomas in his tracks! Not only that, Tomas has got a nosey Liam watching his every move.

In Maths, we have continued to look at Fractions. The children have flown through this unit! This week we have explored unit and non-unit fractions, recognising and finding ¾ and counting in fractions up to a whole.

In Science, we continued to write up our investigation and we checked on the progress of our cress. So far, the plant pot on the window sill is receiving water and sunlight and is growing successfully, however the plant pot in the cupboard is dry and is struggling to grow without water and sunlight.

In Geography, we discussed how we are going to collect data to answer our Fieldwork question. We want to compare the rainfall in Standish to the rainfall in Cape Town. To gather this data, we are going to collect rainfall in rain gauges that will be located around the school grounds.

In Drama, the children continued to work on their 'Little Red Riding Hood' performances. As a group, they have really had to think about spacing and positioning and ensuring they don't have their back to the audience. When we performed to each other, we offered helpful advice to help each other improve our pieces.

In Art, we completed our final piece. The children drew and painted a self portrait in the style of Pablo Picasso. The children used block colours and considered the cubism style when producing their work.

To end a brillant half term we were also the platinum lunchbox and the class points winners! Well done Y2M, that was very well desreved.

We hope you have a lovely half term and return to school refreshed and recharged ready for some new learning!
