Wigan Netball Champions!
Yesterday, the Wood Fold netball team took part in the annual netball competition, which was held up the road at Standish High School. The team was placed in a round robin format, where they faced every team once. I am delighted to announce that after winning 4 matches and drawing one, Wood Fold were crowned as champions! All of the team’s hard work in training over the last 6 weeks (in the heat) has paid off and it was a well-deserved win! Player of the tournament goes to Amelia, for her composure on the ball when passing or shooting at goal! Great work Wood Fold!
Year 3/4 Football
On Monday, children from Years 3 and 4 took part in a football tournament, which was held at William Fosters sports complex in Wigan. The team were amongst 37 other schools battling it out to be crowned Wigan champions. Wood Fold were put in group 8 against OSJ, St Peters and Canon Sharples. The boys performed exceptionally well, showcasing wonderful movement, tackling, dribbling and of course plenty of goals. Wood Fold topped the group, winning an impressive 5 out of 6 matches. This achievement put Wood Fold into the quarter finals were unfortunately, the team were defeated on a penalty shootout (not a nice way to leave the competition). The boys were not disheartened by this and certainly took a lot away from the tournament. Player of the tournament goes to Caleb (Y3) for his passing, dribbling and outrageous goals scored against the opposition.
Y5/6 Netball Developmental Festival
On Wednesday after school, some of our Year 5 and 6 children walked down to Standish High School to take part in the annual netball festival. Here, the children were taught skills and netball techniques by Standish High students (and past Wood Fold students). Some of the activities included passing, shooting, defending, as well as footwork drills.
After this, the team competed in high five matches against other schools and I am pleased to announce that the team performed fantastically well. Wood Fold drew their fist match 1-1, won their second match 2v0 and then drew their final game 0-0 remaining undefeated. Amazing netball Wood Fold!
