It’s been another busy week in Year 2, and the children have impressed us with their enthusiasm, across all subjects!

In Maths, this week we have continued our work on money. The children practised making £1 using different combinations of coins, worked hard on finding change, and used their knowledge to solve some tricky two‑step word problems. We are now finished with our money unit and will be moving on to multiplication and division next week.

In History, linked to our Great Fire of London topic, we learned how the fire developed over the four days and explored what happened on each day of the disaster.
The children were shocked to discover that St Paul’s Cathedral was destroyed in the fire!

In Science, we began our new topic on habitats. The children carried out their own research into a range of habitats and thought carefully about which living things might be found in each environment. They enjoyed exploring woodland, ocean, desert and rainforest habitats and finding out what makes each one unique.

This week’s DT lessons were full of tasting, describing and evaluating! The children tried a range of fruit and vegetables, using vocabulary such as crunchy, juicy, smooth, and sour to describe taste and texture. They then tasted different cakes, and we will be using these observations to help us decide what kind of cake we would like to make as part of our project.

In Year 2 produced brilliant descriptive writing based on the Great Fire of London, using exciting vocabulary to bring the scenes to life.
We also discussed our first impressions of King Charles II and Samuel Pepys, and considered what Will (from our class text) might be thinking as he leaves the Palace to help stop the fire spreading.

In Music, we revisited the different parts of the recorder and practised holding it correctly. The children also enjoyed singing “London’s Burning”, which linked perfectly to our History work.

During Computing, the children explored how to use algorithms to program a sequence on a floor robot. They also discovered that the same instructions can create different algorithms, depending on how they are organised. Great problem-solving all round!

Have a lovely weekend!
