What an incredible week of learning we have had in Year 1! The children have been busy exploring everything from global geography to healthy eating.
We have been budding programmers this week! In our computing lesson, we practiced giving clear instructions to our Bee-Bots. The children learned how to enter commands to make their robots move forwards and backwards. It was wonderful to see them troubleshooting and "debugging" when their Bee-Bot didn't end up quite where they expected!
In Geography, we took a trip around the globe (using our maps and globes!) to discover the Equator. We learned that this invisible line divides the Earth and is where the weather stays very warm all year round.
Back at home in Science, we looked at the current season. We went on a hunt for the signs of winter, discussing the colder temperatures, frost on the ground, and why the trees look so different right now.
After studying the Eatwell Plate, our young chefs turned their attention to nutrition. We discussed which foods help us grow and stay strong. Using what we learned, the children designed their own healthy dinner plates, making sure to include plenty of colourful vegetables and proteins.
In Maths, we have been working hard on our number sense. We used number lines and counters to compare numbers up to 20, using words like "greater than" and "less than." We also practiced our "speedy recall" for finding one more and one less than any given number.
Oh no! Sunny the Meerkat has gone missing! To help find him, the children put their descriptive writing skills to the test by creating "Lost and Found" posters. We made sure to include what he looks like and where he was last seen.
Thank you for your continued support!
