It has been another exciting and busy week in Year 2!

In Music, we began learning the lyrics to the South African song Hands, Feet, Heart. The children worked really hard to remember the words, and once they had mastered them, they started adding actions to match the song. We also explored the call and response technique, taking turns to sing different parts – it sounded fantastic!

In Geography, we continued our learning about South Africa by looking at the physical features of Cape Town. The children were fascinated by Table Mountain and learnt that many tourists visit to enjoy the amazing views across the city. We also discovered Boulders Bay, which is famous for its penguins! We have also started to plan our own fieldwork project, where we will compare the rainfall in Standish with the rainfall in Cape Town.

In Maths, we have been learning to tell the time. The children have practised reading o’clock, half past, quarter past and quarter to. We have also started to tell the time past the hour, and the children are becoming much more confident – well done!

In Science, we began planning an investigation to find out what plants need to survive. We discussed the equipment we would need and started to write our method, thinking carefully about each step we will take.

In English, the children showed great imagination by putting themselves in the characters’ shoes as they watched the dragons hatch! They then wrote a recount about a magical sleepover at Grandad’s house, where dragons filled the garden and caused lots of havoc.

In Art, we have started painting the backgrounds for our self-portraits in the style of Picasso. The children have enjoyed experimenting with colour and are looking forward to completing their portraits.

During our Computing lessons, we enjoyed using Chrome Music Lab. We created different sounds inspired by different animals. We thought carefully about which sounds we could use to represent each of the different animals.

During our spelling lessons this week, we have been focusing on using apostrophes for possession. We learnt which word in the sentence needs an apostrophe and where the apostrophe belongs in the sentence.

Well done, Year 2, for another brilliant week of learning!

Have a lovely half term!
