What a fantastic half term we have had in Year 1! The children have worked incredibly hard and we are so proud of all they have achieved.

In Maths, we have completed our fractions topic. The children have been learning about quarters, including finding one quarter and understanding a quantity of a quarter. They have enjoyed using practical resources and real-life examples to help deepen their understanding.

In History, we have finished our exciting topic on Aviation. We concluded by learning about Amelia Earhart and why she is such a significant figure in history. The children were fascinated to discover how she became the first female pilot to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean and how she has inspired many people around the world.

In Science, we completed our Materials topic. The children explored different materials and their properties, and they finished by thinking about which materials would be best to make a bike and why. They showed great reasoning skills and were able to explain their choices clearly.

In PSHE, we have been learning about belonging to a family. The children shared wonderful ideas about what makes their families special and how we care for one another.

For homework, the children have been set a learning postcard task. We look forward to seeing their lovely work after the break!

We hope you all have a relaxing and enjoyable half term. Please stay safe and enjoy the sunshine – we look forward to welcoming the children back refreshed and ready for the final half term of Year 1.

Best wishes,
The Year 1 Team
