We’ve had a fantastic and busy week in Year 2!

During our English lessons we have continued reading Queen Victoria’s Bathing Machine. The children worked hard to order the steps that Queen Victoria needed to follow when using the bathing machine. It was a great way to practise sequencing and understanding instructions.

Our focus this week in Art has been on sketching techniques. We explored different types of pencils and experimented with shading and texture. The children really enjoyed trying out these techniques and seeing how different pencils can create different effects. They considered which pencil they preferred using and why.

In Maths, we have started our new unit on Shape. The children have been naming 2D and 3D shapes and counting the sides on 2D shapes. We also used this knowledge to help us to identify different shapes based on the number of sides that they have.

During our Science lessons this week we have continued with our animals, including humans topic. This week we focused on what humans need to survive. We discussed the essentials for life and why they are important. The children were able to recall that to survive we need food, air, water, shelter and sleep. We enjoyed reading a text about human survival and used our fact retrieval skills when answering questions.

In Geography we have been learning about London and identifying its human and physical features. We named each of the landmarks then identified if they were a human or physical feature.

During forest schools, we toasted marshmallows around the fire! It was a lovely opportunity to enjoy nature and practise safety outdoors.

This week’s assemblies focused on road safety. The children learned how to stay safe when crossing roads and why it’s important to be alert near traffic.
