It has been a busy but very successful week in Year 6! The children have shown excellent focus, effort and enthusiasm throughout the week.

This week was Assessment Week, giving the children the opportunity to showcase all they have learned so far in Year 6. They completed tests in spelling and grammar, reading, arithmetic, and two reasoning papers. We were very impressed with their application, attitude, and effort – well done to all!

In Maths, we continued our work on fractions, tackling multistep problems, multiplying fractions by integers, and subtracting mixed numbers. The children have shown great determination in applying their knowledge to increasingly challenging questions.

In English, we continued reading Pig Heart Boy. We explored Cameron’s emotions from the start of the story to Chapter 5, noticing the wide range of feelings he experiences. The children also planned their next piece of writing: a diary entry from Cameron’s perspective, which they are looking forward to writing next week.

In Science, we carried on learning about the circulatory system, focusing on blood vessels – veins, arteries, and capillaries. The children also planned an investigation to assess how exercise affects heart rate, applying their scientific understanding in a practical way.

In History, we continued learning about Anglo-Saxon lifestyles, preparing to explore crime and punishments in Anglo-Saxon times next week.

In Art, we explored the tools and techniques used by photorealist artist Ileana Hunter. The children experimented with pencils, mark-making, and blending techniques, developing their own skills in creating detailed and realistic artwork.

Well done to all the children for another hardworking and productive week!
