It's been a very hot and very busy week in Year 5 this week.
In English we have been reading more of our novel 'The Explorer' by Katherine Rundell. We have continued to analyse the character of the Explorer and have found some very exciting things about his past life. we have created spider diagrams and found evidence to back up our ideas and we are beginning to think about how his past life may have been the reason he does not want to be found!
On Wednesday it was World Rainforest Day and we joined a live lesson lesson ran by the WWF. We found out all about the importance of rainforests and their amazing wildlife. We explored some of the challenges rainforests face and discovered what we can all do to help our rainforests. We were also joined by Owen Davey, an award-winning Illustrator, who ran a live drawing tutorial. He showed how to look for shapes within the animals we were drawing. We followed his instructions to draw a tiger - they all looked amazing and were all unique! Just like tigers in real life!
In Science, we found out all about the work of Naturalists and Animal Behaviourists. We researched the work of Sir David Attenborough and Jane Goodall, learning about how their work with animals has helped protect them from near extinction. We also discussed how David Attenborough also raises awareness of how climate change and plastic pollution is harming the planet and the habitats of the plants and animals around the world.
In Geography, we put our map skills to good use and identified the source and course of the Amazon river. We found out that its source is high up in the Andes Mountain Range in Peru and its course takes travels across South America, through Brazil and out to the Atlantic Ocean where you will find the mouth of the river.
Have a fantastic weekend in the sun - stay safe and we will see you on Monday!
