Year 4 Weekly Summary

We have had a really fantastic week in Year 4, filled with great learning and lots of enthusiasm. One of our highlights was Odd Socks Day on Thursday, which everyone enjoyed—it was a lovely way to celebrate individuality and kindness!

Maths:
This week, we began exploring decimals, with a particular focus on tenths. The children have worked hard to understand how tenths link to fractions and place value, and they are beginning to show great confidence in this new topic.

English:
In English, we analysed the Iceni people and how they showed fear and resistance towards the Roman invasion. We then moved on to studying direct speech, using conversations between Rhianna and Boudica, and Rhianna and Eleri. Our focus has been on using the correct punctuation, including speech marks, commas, and new lines for each speaker.

Science:
Our Science learning centred around the acronym MRS GREN, representing the seven characteristics of living organisms:

• Movement
• Respiration
• Sensitivity
• Growth
• Reproduction
• Excretion
• Nutrition

We discussed what each characteristic means and created our own symbols to help us remember them.

History:
In History, we located Italy on the map and began comparing the Romans and the Celts. We focused specifically on the Celtic tribe, the Britons, who lived in Britain at the time of the Roman invasion. The children have shown great curiosity about how these two groups lived and what made them different.

Art:
In Art, we analysed a still life arrangement that we created in class and started practising different shading techniques to show light and shadow. The children have been developing their observational skills and exploring how artists use shading to create depth.
