We have had a wonderfully busy and exciting week of learning across all subjects!
In Maths, we have been using the four operations to solve problems involving length and height, applying our addition, subtraction, multiplication and division skills to measurement challenges.
We also began our brand-new topic: Mass and Capacity. We started by comparing mass using the vocabulary heavier, lighter and equal to. The children then learned how to measure mass accurately in both grams (g) and kilograms (kg).
This week marked the end of our History topic on the Great Fire of London. To finish, the children answered our enquiry question:
“Why was the Great Fire of London a significant event?”
They impressed us with how confidently they used all the historical knowledge they’ve gained over the past few months. Their thoughtful explanations and writing made us very proud!
In English, we explored non-fiction texts, identifying features such as titles, subheadings, and Did You Know? boxes. Using these features, the children planned and wrote their own non-fiction text about the Great Fire of London, creating informative and well-structured pieces.
Our SPaG focus this week was using commas in a list. The children practised by identifying commas in a lists, inventing their own sentences including commas and spotting errors in sentences.
In Science, we continued learning about animal habitats and how different animals are suited to where they live. For example, we discovered that camels have long eyelashes to protect their eyes from blowing sand.
In Art, we compared the work of Kurt Schwitters and Robert Rauschenberg. We discussed similarities and differences in their styles, noticing how both artists created collages from different materials and even invented words to describe their artwork.
Today, we rounded off our learning with a fantastic school trip linked to the Great Fire of London. The children had a brilliant time and learned even more new information to deepen their understanding. It was a wonderful way to bring our History topic to life!
Have a lovely weekend!
