This week in Year 2, we have had a very busy and exciting time across the curriculum!

In Maths, we have been continuing our statistics topic by exploring pictograms. The children have been learning how to read and interpret pictograms where each picture represents different values, such as 1, 2, 5 or even 10. We have also been working hard on learning our 3 times table.

In English, we have been thinking carefully about the thoughts and feelings of Shen and Sika from our class text. We have also begun planning a recount, using our ideas to help us organise our writing.

In SPaG, we have been focusing on pronouns and learning when and how to use them correctly in our writing.

In Spelling, we have been learning how to add -dge and -ge to words. We have learned that -dge is used after a short vowel sound, while -ge is used after a long vowel sound, after consonants and in longer words.

In Science, we have started our new topic on Materials. This week, we have been naming different materials and sorting a variety of objects into different groups. We also made a decision if the materials was natural or man made.

In History, we have launched our new topic on ‘Explorers’. We have been learning about Neil Armstrong and why he is such a significant individual. The children were fascinated to learn that he said the famous words, “One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.”

We have also been busy practising for our Father’s Day assembly and have taken part in two assemblies this week.

In DT, we have been learning about mechanisms and exploring the difference between fixed and free axles.

In Music, we recapped how to hold the recorder correctly before beginning to play Hot Cross Buns, which the children really enjoyed.

In Personal Development the children were looking at ways to keep healthy and created a healthy food plate which contained food from the different food groups.

Finally, we had a fantastic Sports Day this week! I am so proud of all the children for their effort, teamwork and enthusiasm. It was a truly enjoyable day for everyone.

Have a lovely weekend
