What a wonderful week we have had in Reception! The children are continuing to settle beautifully into school life and have been busy exploring, learning and making new friends. 

In phonics, we have been building on our sound knowledge and practising recognising and saying the sounds we have learned so far. The children were very excited to read our first phonics book together as a class.  

Our Drawing Club story this week was The Little Red Hen. The children loved listening to the tale and discussing the characters and events. They used their imaginations to draw and create their own ideas inspired by the story, while practising their mark-making and developing their storytelling skills. 

In maths, our focus has been on matching and sorting. The children have been exploring different ways to group objects by colour, size, shape and other features. They have enjoyed discussing their ideas and explaining how they decided to sort different items. 

In History, we continued sharing the story Peepo and talked about how life was different in the past. The children enjoyed spotting objects and features that are different from today and comparing them with things they know now. We also learned about grandparents and discussed how they are our parents' parents, helping us to understand different generations within our families. 

In RE, we explored the theme of celebrations. We talked about different celebrations that are important to us and discussed how we recognise when a celebration is taking place. The children shared some lovely ideas and experiences from home. 

One of the highlights of our week was our first visit to our forest area. The children were excited to explore the outdoor space and showed great curiosity as they looked for the first signs of autumn. We spotted changes in the natural environment and enjoyed talking about what we could see, hear and feel around us. 

We are very proud of how well the children are settling into Reception and look forward to another exciting week of learning next week.
