We have had another exceptional week of learning in Year 6; let's keep it up to the end of term!

In Maths, we continued our work on the four operations by practising to problem solve. The children tackled a range of multi-step problems that required them to use numerous operations. We, also, introduced the concept of BIDMAS. The children quickly understood that we have to follow a certain order when completing operations in a given calculation.

In English, our grammar focus this week has been on using the present and past progressive tenses . We completed our Log Book writes, successfully using relative clauses, semi-colons and parenthesis to make the writing varied and engaging. We have continued to read the story and how our impression of Kensuke has changed in the past couple of chapters.

In Science, we continued our work on classification keys, grouping plants based on their common characteristics. Also, we began exploring what micro-organisms were. The children enjoyed finding examples of good and bad microorganisms and the ways in which they can help or harm us.

During R Time, the children were given the opportunity to build their teamwork skills. We tasked the children to draw a rectangle with a partner, only using their less dominant hands. It was brilliant to see the children problem solving and working so well together.

In Geography, we explored what is meant by the term Coastal Habitats. Once defined, the children conducted their own research about 3 different UK coastal habitats. They gathered information about what they were, what animals and plants lived there and why they are a good habitat.

The children had a wonderful time in Forest Schools this week, The whole of Year 6 enjoyed the session together! The children chose to den build, create conker mobiles and some even re-enacted parts of our class text, Kensuke's Kingdom!

There has been great perseverance and resilience across the subjects this week. Let's keep that up into our final week of term.
